A Creative Collaboration for a Playful Style

This design is the result of a collaboration with Eliza Poklewski Koziell, owner of the jewellery boutique felt in Chelsea Green, London. This collaboration flourished into a wonderful friendship between Eliza and I over the years.

Felt is one of London’s best kept secrets – an Aladdin’s cave filled with eclectic costume, fine and vintage jewellery. It has been featured in the Telegraph and boasts celebrity fans such as Poppy Delevigne and Louisa Guinness. If you are in the Chelsea Green area, Eliza’s shop is definitely worth a visit.

I met Eliza in 2012 when we first discussed the idea of creating a personalised name bangle featuring letter cubes – in a style reminiscent of alphabet dice used by children. Eliza had the idea to create this versatile design after getting requests from her clients in-store.

As with the rest of my collections this versatile solid gold bangle is refined, handmade to withstand the test of time and beautifully finished. The miniature cubes rotate freely as you wear the bangle, giving a playful feel. The little cubes are 4.5mm wide and detailed with engraved lettering on all four sides. This style looks great on its own, or can be worn layered up.

Personalised Name Bangle – How is it made?

I recently completed this pretty set of three name bangles spelling out my client’s children’s names. Here is a snapshot of my making process in the studio at Cockpit Arts, London. The process starts with solid 9ct yellow gold bar which is shaped and stretched to the correct diameter by me in the studio.

 

Once I have accurately drawn down the right sizes of wire I need, the main square gold bar is engraved with the lettering on all four sides. After this I cut this into individual miniature letter cubes, assemble and polish the finished bracelet. This is how the finished pieces look, a gorgeous set of three made to be enjoyed and worn everyday. The bangle is finished with my handmade catch, which is more elegant, secure and long lasting than a spring catch.

What letters or name would you choose?

This playful bangle style can be personalised to feature initials or spell out a name or a word with a special meaning to you. You could use personalised names, initials, words or characters for example. Many of my clients choose to spell out their children’s names.

For one client I created three bangles spelling out STRENGTH, UNIVERSE and BLESSED, which was rather wonderful working with the words when you are making something… Of course you could also keep thing subtle by simply choosing initials of words that are meaningful to you.

The cubes can also be set with stones in all four sides – could be black or white diamonds, rubies, amethyst. For example it could be your birthstone, to celebrate the birth of your child, a memory to cherish or a keepsake to remember.

The possibilities are endless, and each bangle is as unique as you!
